Statue of Liberty and Immigration Museum
Hello, everybody.
Last week we had the opportunity to visit the Statue of Liberty and it was amazing. It is a stately symbol of freedom and it was a gift from France to the United States. The statue represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. It`s a welcoming signal to immigrants arriving from abroad.
It was hard to take pictures in this day because it was so cold, my hands were freezing, but I was so thrilled because I was there.
After we went to Ellis Island to Immigration Museum. I was very excited because we had studied about this island in the previous week at university. In summary, Ellis Island was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States and the Ellis Island Immigration Hospital today is the Immigration Museum. I saw many interesting things there, many pictures explaining the history, a tree with foreign words which influenced the American English but I was very impressed with the influence of immigration in American popular music, so the American music is so good because it`s a mixture and it`s so lucrative for the country.
We are really having a great opportunity in participating the PDPI Program because we are realizing our dreams. Every English teacher has a dream to face the Statue of Liberty one day, even because we are used to see this marvelous monument in our English books. Congratulations to all PDPI participants who are doing excursions to this NYC famous Landmark.
