Post 2 - MARQUES

                                                   New York Public Library

Visiting New York City is an amazing experience. There are many interesting things to do here, without mentioning the snow. In this season seams that the human beings pay close attention in each step, movement to go on. Seeing  this phenomenon to happen during the day, night, makes me think in the value of life, the power which does the world turns. In another words, it is a magnificent spectacle.
This week we had the opportunity to visit the New York Public Library and enrich my cultural values. I could notice the importance that the United States gives for the cultural aspects, starting by the huge and marvelous building that values  those who help to build this monument. There are rooms equipped with a lot of computers where students, foreigners can research and get in touch with famous writers` writing an thoughts in their works.
If a person wants to gift someone, that is the right place to find souvenirs from different places of  New York. On the other hand, the `Frescoes` of two rooms overwhelmed me. the details, the painting, the color, the work itself made my thoughts fly to other worlds and increase my sensibility towards the arts.
In short , it was a relevant contribution of PDPI program to enhance our knowledge in order to have a narrow dialogue between the English and Portuguese language and open new horizons of our group of students and myself.

Post 2 - REZENDE

Hi, everybody.... Writing about my second week on New York means a lot of learning.

I had a great time at this week. It was a moment for knowledge and improve.
On St. Jonhs University, my classes were wonderful. In the morning, I had classes with Dorothy - a great and intelligent teacher. In the afternoon, I had different classes and the most interesting for me it was with the professor Joyce Mandell. She show us how the phonetic and pronunciation is correct in a different point of view.
I enjoy her lecture all the time. I never have had a phonetic and pronunciation class with this focus. She mixes English and Music, and I know how important the music is in the learning process.
Other important lecture was with Mrs. Sue Peterson; she discussed about technologies at school. It was important for me because Brazilian teacher needs to effort about this theme. We have no technologies like here, but we can do it happens!
On January 17th, we visited the New York Public Library. I was amazed about that place. All things, all details are rich. I never had seen a place like that!
Yesterday, my friend Alice Xavier and me visited the MoMa. We can see a lot of Art and we have a great time there. We visited the Memorial 9/11 and make me thing a lot and remember the sad things happened here. On the other hand, I could see people here are different from Brazil because they do things that become here better and so on.
Here, in New York, all things, all people, all places are very interesting and make me fell a better person and I know when I return to Brazil, my classes will be better a lot!

Hello all!

I'm very happy, I'm in NY, but I'm freezing here!!! I never saw something like that!!
But I'm enjoying each single day. The snow is amazing!
The class this week was full of emotion with the presentation of work, I got very nervous, but our professor, Dorothy, is so sweetheart and I managed to get better.
It is very hard to walk or visit some places here because the weather hurts so much. We visit the Public Library this week and I could see a wonderful place and beautiful history about it, I think that everybody loved to be there.
I loved to be on "The Top of Rock" , I could see all the city from there, it's an unforgetable view. The Central Park is very different of the summer, there are no leaves on the tree, but there is a different charm and different beauty in the winter.
The place that I love to visit is the Greenwich Village, where I could listen a good music and it's a good place to walk and observe the interesting architecture.

Best regards for everybody

Junior

POST.2.GOMES.PAULA JANAINA
Amazing birthday in New York

Everybody agrees that New York is a wonderful city, as well as PDPI is a great Educational Chance in our lives.I used to daydream a lot about how my life, my studies and relationships would be during the PDPI in NY, when I was in Brazil.

By the way, my birthday is on January,17th and I wondered how that day would be....far from my little boys and my Family. In my thoughts I imagined that it´d be a sad and lonely day. But it was a great surprise...
It was Friday and we had a special schedule. We were supposed to visit New York Public Library.I spoke to my Family on Skype, which made really happy, but the day was just starting...

First My PDPI friends sang "Happy Birhtday" for me in the Subway Station, then We had the chance to know NY Public Library, a wonderful place to visit or study. In the Library I saw an old map of Brazil and recognized some of the MINAS GERAIS GOLD CIRCUIT TOWNS of the 18th century. Very interesting!!!

After day I went to Times Square for the first time, took lots of pictures with my friends Vander Vilela e Robert Lima!

Later I went to the Empire State Building, while in line I had the opportunite to see photos of its construction, but when I stepped on that balcony and saw that landscape I almost lost my breath... How can I explain that incredible sight, I was speechless...

When I thought the day was happily ending, on our way back home, there was a Hip Hop Dance Group, making mini.presentations in the Subway Station. We stopped to see and took pictures, since it´s an alternative look on NY Culture.

But More gifts were about to come...
My dear PDPI friends threw a Surprising Party for me in the Amsterdam Residence and gave me some flowers...

Imagine....
Not even in my nicest daydreams, I thought of such an Unforgettable Day, like that!
Being in New York was a child dream...
How can I be so blessed to spend my 3.2 birthday here???

Such a great way to celebrate it!!!

I thank God for my health, for the PDPI and the special people He has put on my way and all He has done in my life!

Central Park: a place makes me excited!!!

Trees, grasses, monuments, lake and many things we can find in Central park it is a fantastic place.

When I visited the park the weather was not good for me because was very cold so I didn’t enjoy the landscape so much, but I took some beautiful pictures there.

This place brings peace, beauty and balances for everybody that come in the park even in winter. I walked around and experienced many emotions because one day I dreamed be there and I got it.

POST 2 - ROSELY LEITE
TO SPEAK OR NOT TO SPEAK,  THAT'S THE QUESTION!

Paraphrasing one of the most famous speech in the great writer William Shakespeare's play, which was used  to express Hamlet's hesitation in a certain moment in his life.
I may share with my classmates and people who read this blog my hesitation in the beginning of The Teachers Program in the Language Connection of St. John's University. I was afraid of speaking English and to make mistakes,Not to be understood. The lack of self-confidence was by my side and made me feel bad. I really hesitate in many situations to speak English in the classroom with my classmates or to give opinions on debates.
I have to tell you that it still happens, but I feel much more better today. I have read a lot about American Culture, I've shared ideas and comments with my classmates and teachers. I have learned a lot and I have taken notes  of everything that may help to improve my English profiency. We've had amazing classes and the PDPI Faculty and Staff have done everything to make us confortable.
That's the reason I chose this famous sentence "to be or not to be, that is the question" to paraphrase in my second post.
