RIBEIRO - VOLUNTEERING
Mission Accomplished!
Yesterday was a special day for us here in NYC. Some of the teachers went to Queens for a Volunteer work. To be honest, I had never done this kind of work in Brazil, actually it is not so common there.
It surely was a valuable experience. I had the opportunity to see a new reality here in New York. I found out that New York is not only richness, there are many poor people who need help.
From this experience could I learn that I can provide more from my time, energy and skills to help the ones in need, somehow I was valuable to them.
Another advantage of this work was the opportunity to practice my English talking to other volunteers from other universities here in New York.
When I go back to Brazil I intend to share this experience with my colleagues and find a way on how to implement this idea in our school.
RIBEIRO - POST 3
Hi there, folks.
Today my post is about Central Park, another National Historic Landmark in New York. It particularly is a special place for me because it was the first spot I went to on my very first day here. When we think about Central Park, the first thing that comes to our minds is a huge green area in the heart of New York, but it is winter and and the leaves are gone, but even though it is an amazing place to be at. I saw lots of kids playing, people going jogging. One of the activities you can do there in winter is ice-skating, you can find two rinks there. I went there just once but I intend to go back there more times before I go back to Brazil.

MY VOLUNTEERING WORK IN QUEENS
It was a wonderful experience. The first time I do this kind of
work as a volunteer. And I will never forget it. I will share this experience
with my students and all other teachers when i arrive in Brazil.
I
can use this great experience in my life to work projects related to social
problems seen in around the world, and make our students to reflect more on
this important subject.
a It was a very valuable experience that makes us
reflect on our lives as human beings and appreciate even more what we have,
because there are people starving and not looked at this situation.
b To be a volunteer is to have social and community
interest. It`s an unpaid work, and we should do with love and dedication to
help people who need our help.
c Through discussion and practice, showing the reality
closely and doing a reflection on social problems in English.
d Doing volunteer services like this that we made here
in the United States, becoming a permanent practice that is not only once,
because our students need to learn the value of helping those in need.

Volunteer work
in Queens
Yesterday I had
na experience very interesting and a great opportunity of help people as a volunteer
offering vegetable and fruits for poor people in the Queen in New York. In the
first time, I thought “this not be very easy, there are many people and food be
enough” but after I involved and felt an enormous enjoy and pleasure for to
live this moment. Before to go I read about the “City Harvest” is a program aims
to rescue food for New York´s hunger then I realized the serious commitment
that City Harvest had in practice. This work is not common in Brazil, in my
state even less. It was excellent because I could help people for a short time and
at the same time practice my English, specially listening skill. In fact, I’ll
take this experience back to Brazil and will try to do the same with my
students in my possibilities. I can do to activities with my classes that involve
English as a language foreign and try to help people though donations. God bless more works as this. Thank you my friends by working in partnership!

The Museum of Modern Arts-MOMA- is a beautiful place
that fuels of creativity with an extraordinary exhibition, a fantastic building
and many collection moderns that fascinating people. This museum with its
collection contemporary and diversify make us think very behind and try to
understand these works as they are extremely deep and enigmatic.
This modern art is not very easy for interpretation
and sometimes seemed a little confused for me, maybe because I don´t have a lot
of contact with dynamic structures and different and the same time so expressive,
and I believe for many people too but not
just me. Then, when visited this wonderful place was an incredible experience
that mixed excited, fascination and happiness.Saturday, February 1, 2014
On 23 January, I left my dorm for a walk around the blocks. The afternoon was cloud and humid. Among several places to visit, I decided to pop into the Central Park which is stated two blocks from here. I have read about this place before coming to New York to be aware of . An urban park in the eastern portion of th Central upper West side of Manhatan here in N.Y. The Central Park was built by landscape and writer fredrick Law Olmsted and the English architect Calvert Vaux. It has been a National Historic landmark since 1962.
It's winter time, I kept walking towards it. When I arrived there I did not expect to see the place in white as a whole. I stepped in despite the weather. My eyes tried to get some green spot somewhere. Where are those natural looking lakes and the walking tracks full of people? These enquiries flooded my mind inside that huge whitish atmosphere. Then I left the place wondering about the next summer .
Here goes a piece of poem I've written about it.
Snow I know
Snow that falls on me
Closing my eyes and soul
Think of a colorful sea
But it's too late, I know
Snow that fades the clear dream
And blocks the track
And pushes me to go back
To remember what I've left.

Volunteer work in Brooklyn
Today we had the great opportunity to work as volunteers offering fresh veggies and fruits to poor people in the borough of Brooklyn here in New York... The place is called Bed-Stuy (just for curiosity, "Everybody hates Chris" takes place here). The "City Harvest" program aims to rescue food for New York's hunger... It was the first time I worked as a volunteer as this is not a common activity at schools in Brazil... It was a great experience for me because I could help so many people in a short period of time and it was awasome!!! We could not only work as helpers but we could practice our English with native speakers as well... I will take this experience back to Brazil and maybe start new volunteering programs with my students there... It will be a great way for them to learn about how important is for us to help others... And, of course, it's a great way for them to practice their English skills, too...
