Post 1 - Oliveira

Hi. My name is Osiel Oliveira. I`m so grateful for being part of the PDPI Winter 2014 Group. And even happier to be sent to New York City - The Big Apple. We are a group of 42 Brazilian English Teachers. We have been amazed since we got here. Everything is so different from what we are used to: the buildings are tall and fancy, the food is scary sometimes and not many children around. Not to mention the weather - extremely cold. On our first Sunday in Manhattan, I and my new friend, Nicodemos, went to church. We visited the First Baptist Church - beautiful old building. We attended Bible School and the Service. Since we had time, a very kind lady took us on a tour in the building. We saw interesting scenes, but the one that triggered me was the photo of George Washington - the first American President, being baptized by the first pastor of this church, John Gano. Then, we had lunch and headed to our dorms - Sara`s Homestay located at the upper west side of this great island.
