Final Post - Oliveira (Volunteer Work)

                                       Packing Potatoes up!

Yes! We had a blast helping the City Harvest.

Some of the PDPI teachers got engaged in a different activity yesterday. We had the chance to go to a company that receives donated food and delivers it to poor families in New York City. It was hard work! And thanks to the coordinator of the company, the job was done properly. First, she gave us some information about the company and the vision of it. Then, she took the group to a huge room where there were pins of potatoes ready to be packed into household size. Everyone got busy sorting and packing the sweet potatoes.  It was amazing how everyone was engaged and happy. The coordinator mentioned, “I’ve never seen such enthusiastic people doing volunteer work. You, people, should come more often.”

I think everyone can do something to help the needy. If you have the opportunity – do not hesitate.
