Post 5 Lorena Coelho

School visit
This post is dedicated to Mr. Vandervoort, an incredible biology teacher at The High School for Language and Diplomacy in NY.
On Friday (February, 7th), we visited a high school aiming to observe some classes and getting some new ideas from it to use in our classes in Brazil. The experience brought me a prize: 15 minutes in an ideal class. Everything, from the students’ entrance until we leave the room, was connected perfectly. It was established a routine between teacher and students, respect, organization, cleaning, lesson planning, responsibility and mainly, confidence. On the board, the teacher had already written  everything we supposed to be necessary and important for the students’ successful such as: What they are learning ; How they are learning; Why it is important to learn; Also the warm up activity, homework,  and announcements, some notes and  websites searched for that class. The students were interacting all the time with Mr. Vandervoort, he gave them some questions and immediately they started to answer them… they seemed motivated. There was also IT resources for teacher using and students too.

As far as I am concerned everything was thought to reach students learning and at the end the teacher’s lesson plan goal was achieved.  This was a great and impressive experience which motivated me to be a better teacher to my students in my country. I definitely want to be that kind of teacher. Thank you, Mr. Vandervoort, for such wonderful class!
